"Everything will be for the best,"my mother said every time I was disappointed ."Come on,and one day good things will come to you."
Mother was right.When I left college in 1932,i wanted to look for a job in a radio station .I wanted to be a sports announcer.I went to lots of places in Chicago,but I couldn't find a good job.
In one radio station,a friendly woman told me that big stations couldn't let a green hand work there."Go and find a small station.You may find your job there,"she said.
Then I came back to Dixon,Illinois.My father told me that a small station needed a sports announcer.So I went there.I said all the things about sports there.The job was just right for me,but they didn't want me to werk there.
"Evetything will be for the best,"Mother's words came to me.Then I went to WOC Radio in Davenport,Iowa.One woman just told me that they had three announcers then.
When I left there ,Iwas very sad.I asked myself,"How can a boy get to be a sports announcer if he can't get a job in a radio station?"
