The importance of reading
As a saying goes,“To read is to fly:it is to soar to a point of vantage which gives a view over wide terrains of history,human variety,ideas,shared experience and the fruits of many inquiries.” Reading is like to take a flight to a high altitude in pursuit of information and knowledge.It will give us countless treasure as long as we stick to reading widely and wisely.
Firstly,reading can exercise our mind and make us more knowlegable.Just like physical exercise,reading helps the mind operate actively and maintains its vitality.We are motivated to use our brain so that we can figure out many things which are unfamiliar to us while reading.In this process,the grey cells of our brain are exercised to think,which will make us smarter.Besides,we also become knowledgable through the habit of reading in our life.There is perhaps no greater avenue to learning knowledge through reading.All people,great and small,have learned more things by reading then practically anywhere other way.When we continue to read,we review the pages of knowledge left by those who came before us.We then begin to add to the knowledge as the cycle of humanity continue.Someone once said that reading thousands of books is as the same as travelling thousands of miles.It saves us time and energy to explore those mysteries by ourselves.However,if interested,we will still develop a huge curiosty to discover them and to prove what we have seen in books.
Reading can also broaden our eyes and enrich our life.We are able to catch a glimpse into other cultures and places of the world.How would us know about the life of people in Germany if we don’t read about it?Reading gives us an insight into the diversity of ethnicity of people,their customs and their lifestyles.As a result,we will not be confined in our own little world anymore.We also have the chance to share our feelings and experience with others.There is no need to worry about making a fool of ourselves in an embarrassing situation where we have nothing to talk about.Since we read a lot,we will always have something to talk about.We can discuss various plots in the novels we read; we can discuss the stuff we are learning in the travel books we are reading as well.The possibilities of sharing become endless.Even if we stay alone,
we can read books to reduce boredom.
There are also other benefits of reading.However,we will never know unless we take actions to develop the habbit of reading widely and wisely.So pick up a book and prepare ourselves for a fantastic adventure,we will find what a wonderful experience reading is
