Roebling convinced his son,Washington,who was a young engineer,that the bridge could be built.The two of them developed the idea of how it could be accomplished（完成）and how the difficulties could be overcome(克服).With great excitement,they hired a lot of people and began to build their dream bridge.
The project was only a few months under construction(在建设中) when an accident took the life of John Roebling and seriously injured his son,Washington.Washington was left with brain disease and was unable to walk and talk.Everyone thought that this project had to be stopped because only Roebling knew how the bridge could be built.
Even though Washington was unable to move or talk,his mind was as sharp as ever.And he was determined to finish this project.suddenly,an idea occurred to him as he lay on his hospital bed.He himself developed his own way of communicating with his wife.By tapping(敲) on the table,his wife can understand what he meant.For 13 years,Washington tapped out his ideas with his fingers until the bridge was finished.
