If I only had another wish, I would ask for leaves of glass.” The next morning, he found himself covered with bright and shining leaves of glass. “I’m happy, No other tree in the woods shines like me,” said the little tree, Then a strong wind blew through the woods. As soon as the wind blew on the little tree, all the shining leaves fell to the ground.
“My glass leaves!” cried the little tree, “They are broken and lie on the ground while the other trees are still dressed in their beautiful leaves. If I had another wish, I would ask for green leaves.” The little tree’s wish became true again. He laughed and said happily, “Now, I’m like my friends in the woods.” Just then a goat saw the new leaves. She and her children ate the leaves till the little tree became bare. The little tree cried again, “I don’t want leaves, whether they’re gold, glass, or green ones! If I could only have my needles once more, I would never complain again.”
When the little tree saw himself in the morning sunshine, he laughed, Why! Because all his needles came back again!
