一个高中英语问题
I haven't got a chair( ) A.for sitting on B.to sit on
这两个选项有何区别?A为什么是错的?
hoh,I am confused too,so I went to ask for some help~
A.'For + -ing' is used to express the purpose of an object,eg A bottle opener is used for opening bottles.'For' can also be used to express a person's purpose, but only when followed by a noun.eg He went to the bar for a drink.
Note that 'for' is not used before a base verb,so we say He went to the bar to have a drink rather than 'He went to the bar for have a drink'.
B.The 'to' form is used to express a person's purpose, the reason why they do something.eg as above,'He went to the bar to have a drink'.Note that you can also say 'He went to the bar in order to have a drink'.
看到了么~同样作为目的性定语,A 表示the purpose of an object,而当用于人类的时候,后面必须是个名词;B 表示 a person's purpose~凳子的目的不是做,而是让你坐,sit on却是只表达了你要坐的目的,所以是人的目的咯~is it clear?
btw,这个回答是a guy from canada的,顺便谢他~
