What if you got to meet your favorite singer face to face?That’s exactly what happened for 50 lucky Shanghai fans last Sunday.Khalil Fong,better known as Fang Datong,gave a concert on Saturday night and then met with music lovers the next day to hang out,sign autographs and talk about what it’s like to be a star.This reporter got to be there and here’s what we found out:
Khalil grew up in Shanghai from the age of six.Did he suffer through endless piano lessons when he was a kid?Nope!He taught himself how to play the guitar and piano when he was a teenager.His first job was working for his mom —singing for her New Beat English classes.Kindergarteners all over Shanghai still rock to the beat of Khalil’s first songs.
He produced his first album,Soulboy,in 2005.This Love came out in 2006 and he has produced four more albums since then—his latest being 15.The songs touch people’s hearts.The number “15” is meaningful for Khalil,because that’s the age he was when he first picked up a guitar.He spent 600 days and more than 14,400 hours on this album—it’s a labor of love.
Khalil uses his music to cross generations.He thinks everyone should get along—no matter what country they are from,their age or their religion.He’s all about peace and living your dream!
