Directions:You are to write an article under the title “Don't be Afraid to Say ‘No’” in about 100 words in length.The outline is as follows:
1.Occasions when people have to say “NO” to others when asked for help.
2.Why people are afraid to say “No” when they should say so?
3.Harms suffered when people say “Yes” when they should say "No"
Everyone is too nice.We all are obsessed with trying to keep everyone happy,we have forgotten to look after number one.Look at these steps to find out when to say no.
1 Know your limits.If you can't do something quit while you're ahead.
2 If you don't want to/can't do something,don't be nasty!Just tell that person in a nice way that you're really sorry but you're busy that day,and possibly rearrange something else on another date.
3 Know your diary.If you don't you could double book.Make sure that you conveniently have something on that day.
4 Trust your instincts,your body reacts even if you consciously don't fully understand what you are experiencing.If you are feeling anxious in a situation,heart rate increasing,or maybe you just are feeling uneasy it's a good indication that something is wrong.It may time to say NO,find a rock and kick it.
5 Know your expectations.If you are obliged to do something,do it.
6 If what you're doing is dangerous,back out as soon as possible to avoid emotional and physical injuries.
7 I know it always seems hard to say no,as you are afraid of hurting other people's feelings.However,it usually benefits to just summon up the courage and risk upsetting others,things should be fine unless you have a really touchy friend!
8If you have trouble saying "no" start by saying "I'll have to think about that","I'll have to check my diary" or "I'll get back to you".That way you give yourself time to think.Often people who have difficulty with saying "no" feel pressured into saying "yes".Take the pressure off and you will find it easier to say "no".Never do something because you feel obliged or embarrassed not to.Your judgment may not be serving you well when you are under pressure.
