Rubber Forming
In 1872,Adolph Delkescamp was granted an American patent concerning the cutting of paper and foil using rubber,and between 1936 and 1940 Henry Guerin of the Douglas Aircraft Company was granted patents on the forming and shearing of sheet metals by means of a confined and pressurized rubber pad hence the Guerin process.
Basically,the technique is relatively simple.A block of rubber is confined in the retainer,when forced upon the piston in a press,the rubber is pressurized rather like a fluid.This produces the results shown by the use of appropriate tooling.
